New rules for balcony power plants: First relief now

If you want to buy a balcony power plant, then you should know the new rules and relief that will apply from 2024. While solar package 1 with the increase in output to 800 watts is still delayed, an initial simplification in registration was implemented on April 1, 2024.

Balcony power plant reliefs

Update: The Federal Network Agency has officially announced that the Registration of a balcony power plant with the market master data register (MaStR) has been greatly simplified as of April 1, 2024. Instead of 20 pieces of information about your new balcony power plant, you have to only provide five details. In addition, the user navigation should be simplified so that you can find your way around better (source: Federal Network Agency).

Original article from August 19, 2023:

Balcony power plants have experienced a real boom in recent years. Many people wanted to take action, but didnā€™t because there was too much bureaucracy. This is exactly what should change in 2024. The demands of the balcony power plant experts are met, creating significantly more freedom.

The following changes will apply from 2024:

800 Watt instead of 600 Watt: Inverters were previously limited to an output of 600 watts. In the future you will be able to feed 800 watts into the home network.
Solar cells with up to 2,000 watts: In the future, you will be able to connect solar cells with an output of up to 2,000 watts to an inverter for balcony power plants. Until now, network operators had mostly discouraged allowing such balcony power plants, even if the inverters were throttled.
Registration: This is only necessary to a lesser extent for the market master data register. As soon as registration has taken place, the network operators will be automatically informed. Only then will a decision be made as to whether the electricity meter needs to be replaced. If you have an old electricity meter that still runs backwards, then thatā€™s not a problem. You can still use your balcony power plant. Until now this was forbidden. Network operators now have four months to change the electricity meter.

The Bundestag still has to approve the rule change decided by the federal government to make balcony power plants easier. If that happens, then they apply new rules from January 1, 2024. The resolution does not regulate which plug may be used. The VDE should make a recommendation. Most recently he spoke out in favor of Schuko plugs.

This currently still applies to balcony power plants:

What about the privileged measure in the WEG?

The introduction of a right to a balcony power plant as a privileged measure in the WEG/BGB was not part of this decision. This means that tenants would have a right to a balcony power plant and could no longer be prevented from doing so by the landlord. There is a second draft law that will probably be passed at the end of September 2023 so that it can come into force on January 1, 2024 (source: Golem). If that were to happen, then installing a balcony power plant would be much more attractive and easier.
