New Twitter competitor already has 100 million users

Is it getting tight for Elon Musk and the short message service Twitter? Just a few days after Meta opened Threads, the platform has already garnered massive user numbers. The service is not yet available in most regions.

Last Thursday, Meta launched a new social network. Threads is reminiscent of Twitter and allows users to share their thoughts with others in short message form. Including the possibility to like, share and comment on the posts.

Has Meta finally created a serious Twitter alternative after many others have failed? At least it looks very much like it. According to the first figures, the service has had a real dream start.

In just four days, Threads surpassed 100 million registered users. And this despite the fact that the platform is officially only available in the US and the UK. If you want to take part in the spectacle in this country, you have to accept certain detours. Data protection concerns are currently preventing an official release in Germany.

Great success is no accident. Since the service is linked directly to Instagram, the hurdle to register is quite low, at least for the more than two billion Instagram users. Added to this is the fact that all Instagram followers can also be taken directly. So, unlike all other Twitter competitors, you don’t have to start from scratch. We can be curious how the number of users will develop in the coming months and what effects Threads will have on Twitter’s future in the long term.
