Nintendo Announces Dropping Support for X/Twitter
Nintendo has officially declared that it will no longer support the integration of X (Twitter) with the Nintendo Switch console starting from June 10, 2024. This decision means that users will no longer be able to post game screenshots directly to X or send friend requests through the platform. This move comes as a result of the X/Twitter API charging policy, which requires companies to pay a hefty fee ranging from $42,000 to $210,000 per month depending on usage.
The decision by Nintendo to drop support for X/Twitter follows similar actions taken by Microsoft and SONY, who have also discontinued native sharing functions on the platform. This move will significantly reduce the influence of X/Twitter in the home console market.
In response to Nintendo’s decision, X/Twitter stated, “The gaming community is one of the largest and most active on our platform, and we are committed to enhancing and supporting game-related features. Nintendo plans to stop sharing content from Nintendo Switch directly to X, but our partnership remains strong, and we are working together to ensure a smooth transition for all users.”
