In a statement transcribed by PC Gamer, Karpazis stated, “The idea of switching to an off-the-shelf engine simply doesn’t meet the needs of a game as truly competitive and demanding as Siege. I’m not going to name names, but you’ll see some games that go through sequels and just completely give up because they have to remake everything they did in the first game. It can be really frustrating, expensive, and in the end, it doesn’t do you any good.”
He further explained that Ubisoft has one of the best engines in the world when it comes to real-time PvP shooters and that the team is constantly working on improving it to deliver content in a faster, more powerful, and stable way. Karpazis expressed confidence that Rainbow Six: Siege has the potential to last forever with the current team, talent, and tools they have.
