Nokia to Stop Producing Smartphones, Focus on Feature Phones
Once the leader in the mobile phone industry, Nokia has seen a sharp decline in the era of smartphones. In 2016, HMD Global obtained the exclusive rights to use the Nokia brand and re-launched smartphones, but recent signs indicate that the smartphone business will be closed before the expiration of the agreement.
According to a report from “Nokia Mob,” HMD’s official X account, formerly known as @nokiamobile on Twitter, has been renamed @HMDGlobal. This move reflects HMD Global’s announcement of a shift towards multiple brands and a focus on feature phones.
The company recently launched a new website, hmd.com, which suggests a clear shift in the development direction. While not much information is available, the website clearly states that Nokia phones will be a “classic Nokia phone,” hinting at the end of smartphone production.
It seems that Nokia will only be sold in the future as a feature phone. This news marks the end of an era for Nokia smartphones.
