This crazy security camera shoots paintballs

The Slovenian start-up “Paintcam” has designed a security camera that not only detects unwanted intruders, but can also independently drive them away from their property. For this purpose she was equipped with a paintball gun.

The security camera was designed so that it can rotate freely and thus has the largest possible field of view. It is offered in three different versions, with the two more expensive ones being equipped with animal and facial recognition. For example, family members or friends can be put on a whitelist via the app. The basic version, however, cannot automatically distinguish between friend and foe.

The security camera can also be controlled remotely using the app. Owners not only get access to the live image, but also to the paintball device. Manual firing of the projectiles is just as possible as automatic mode. If uninvited visitors are detected, the owners also receive a notification on their smartphone.

The security camera should be able to detect intruders from a distance of 30 meters. However, it can only fire within a radius of 15 meters to guarantee high accuracy. According to the manufacturer, the paintballs should not only have a deterrent effect, but can also help bring the perpetrators to the police. 50 balls are included in delivery.

The camera is financed via Kickstarter. The campaign is still running for 39 days and the funding target has already been significantly exceeded. You can get the basic version there starting at 1,190 euros. The Pro version costs 1,790 euros. They are scheduled to be delivered at the beginning of 2025.

As with all crowdfunding campaigns, there is a certain risk that the product will appear late or not in the advertised form. Investments should therefore be made with caution. Furthermore, it is questionable whether the camera is even allowed to be operated in this country.
