Plaza Huincul surprisingly reduced vehicle licenses to 50% for a year

In Plaza Huincul, the Deliberative Council approved the 50% reduction las vehicle license plates individuals for a period of one year. In the case of vehicles that are registered for legal entities, the reduction is 25%. The initiative that emerged from the opposition reaped the favorable votes from the seven members of the legislature.

The initiative that was discussed in this Tuesday’s session was promoted by councilor Fernando Doroschenco (one-person block Frente Unidos por Plaza Huincul). It had a favorable dispatch from Commission One – Industry, Commerce; Municipal Legislation, Treasury, Budget, Public Works and Services – and in the session they voted affirmatively.

This is the “temporary” reduction in the value of the vehicle license fees, as discussed. The body, chaired by Daniel Vidondo, supported the ordinance, which will be valid for one year.

The standard is to apply a “50% reduction in automobile license plates for private vehicles for one year.” The initiative was based on the current situation of the country, and it was considered that the official data that appears on the official website of the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic, inflation was 254.2%. However, salaries were not updated according to that percentage and consequently, people’s purchasing power fell.

Another of the arguments of the norm is that the average salary of registered workers did not cover the basic needs of a typical family, as of February 2024. It was recalled that the reference value of the most economical cars sold in the country is between 15 and 20 million pesos, depending on the brand and model.

«The value of the vehicle license tax starts at approximately 30 thousand pesos for several vehicles registered in the city and represents 8% of the average salary of an employee in a dependency relationship,” he said.

The body of councilors did not overlook that this 50% decrease in the case of private cars, “will decrease the income of the municipal coffers, this situation is largely compensated by the increase in provincial royalties and the ENIM, due to the devaluation and increase of the dollar, the reference currency” for settlements.

The councilors also recalled that the system for updating the license plate value of vehicles is “one of the highest in the country.” Then, article 1 of the rule indicated that the reduction is until December 31, for the reduction of patent rates (and which appear in title 16 of ordinance 1879 of 2022).

It is then indicated that the reduction is 50% of the value of the rates for vehicles exclusively registered in the Huinculense municipality in the name of natural persons. As for legal entities that have their vehicles registered in the commune, the reduction will be 25%.

It was clarified that this reduction “is not retroactive” and that it does not modify “the current debt owed to the municipality for vehicle registration fees.” The municipality may compensate taxpayers who have taken advantage of the annual advance payment that was made in January and February.

This ordinance was approved unanimously by Vidondo (president), Liliana Gords, Viviana Casado, Sebastián Ávila, Gustavo Suárez, Marga Yunes (who for health reasons participates virtually) and the author, Doroschenco.
