OVHcloud’s quantum computer, debuts in France

In Croix, France, in the presence of the European quantum ecosystem, OVHcloud inaugurated the first Quantum computer at a European Cloud service provider. At a time when European countries wish to lead innovation, regain control over their future, preserve sovereignty of data and defend its values, OVHcloud invests in cutting-edge solutions to support theautonomy strategy of Europe. The first launch of the Quandela MosaiQ quantum computer at OVHcloud facilities lays the foundation for the future of innovation in Europe. And it does so by making use of talents and technologies available at a local level.

The foundations of the future of cloud computing

In a clear demonstration of commitment to innovation, OVHcloud purchased the Quandela quantum computer in March 2023. It thus sent a clear message of support to the entire Quantum ecosystem through the French program “Choose French Tech”. The group yes engage to develop and promote a solid ecosystem of operators sharing the same values of innovation, data protection and transparency. The MosaiQ system was the first Quandela computer to be shipped from the manufacturing plant and delivered to the data center in late 2023, then set up and configured consequentially. Today it is one of the few quantum computers available in the cloud.

The OVHcloud quantum computer

The MosaiQ system is one of the first of its kind and uses beams of luce thanks to the principles of photonics to perform quantum applications. OVHcloud currently plays a central role for European organizations investing in quantum technology. Technology that can be applied in areas such as optimization, simulation and security. The group intends to use the power of quantum computing for its internal research and development activities, to perfect new security techniques. Or to test new concepts and lay the foundations for the use of future European technologies by players in the industrial sector. Quantum computing could offer solutions to complex problems in the fields of cryptography, the testing of new drugs or complex molecular systems, as well as in the optimization of transport and logistics.

Democratizing access to quantum computing

Niccolò Somaschi, Co-founder and CEO of Quandela
We are proud that the first quantum computer produced in our factory is now installed in one of OVHcloud’s data centers and connected to its cloud. It’s an important step for expand the use of our technologies within the European research and quantum communities. All this confirms our ambitions and commitment to democratize access to quantum computing for industry, research and the entire academic community. With the aim of building a strong European ecosystem.

Free access for students

OVHcloud also announced a plan training course dedicated to selected students of higher education institutions and universities. Program that also includes members of the QuanTEdu-France consortium such as Telecom Paris. Following an evaluation of the questions submitted by the students, the latter will obtain free access, via the Cloud, to OVHcloud’s Quandela QPU. Students will have 80 hours of access to the Group’s range of Quantum notebooks, including Alice & Bob, C12, Eviden, Pasqal and Quandela.

Through the program, which received the praise of Bettina Stark-Watzinger, German Federal Minister for Education and Research, the group contributes to development of talents and skills at a European level. The program offers students unique, cutting-edge technology to contribute to the development of European software to support new use cases and new challenges.

The strategic and technological autonomy of Europe

Michel Paulin, CEO of OVHcloud
We are certain that Quantum is the technology of the future. For this reason we have worked hard to ensure that Europe does not miss out on the next one Revolution technological. Using the cloud, we make this first quantum computer, present in our datacenter, accessible to students. A clear signal of support for the broader ecosystem, playing our part in consolidating Europe’s strategic and technological autonomy.
