OnePlus Struggles with OxygenOS 14 Update: What Went Wrong and What’s Next?

It is clear that OnePlus has lost strength in Spain compared to a few years ago. Other brands are passing it to the right, so the Asian company has had to figure out how to find the key that invites users to return again. The solution to the problems seemed to be OxygenOS 14, although there are several things about the update that have not finished coming together.

At the beginning of the year, OxygenOS 14 was released with the OnePlus 12 and while other ecosystems have gained prominence, such as One UI and Xiaomi HyperOS, the OnePlus layer has not stood out too much this generation, remaining in a background as stated by Android Police. It is true that it continues to maintain that polished and cared for aesthetics, but in terms of functionality it leaves something to be desired for multiple reasons and users also agree.

OxygenOS 14 has not succeeded because of this

Having a OnePlus 11 with OxygenOS 14 is the same as having a OnePlus 12 with OxygenOS 14. The latest generation model has not even gotten any new features compared to the rest of the models, so you can get an idea of the few new features it includes. After surprising everyone with a very special software for its folding mobile phone, the OnePlus Ace, the brand has returned to the conventional line with an update that introduces design changes and little else, staying in a common layer that is very similar to that of OPPO or Realme UI. The difference is that these last two have a certain essence, but OxygenOS stopped being something exclusive in a certain way a long time ago.

Furthermore, it was an update that brought many problems. During the first weeks of the stable version, among the bugs reported by users are the following:

– The app animations do not work.
– The battery is unstable.
– The letter fonts are too large.
– The camera quality is not good.
– Face unlock does not work properly in some apps.

The receipt of OxygenOS 14 was not what was expected due to this series of errors, which, together with the absent of new features of the new version, led to complaints from the community. It is true that many users are happy with how fluid it feels, but as the competition is, there are those of us who expected much more from a customization layer as popular as OxygenOS.

What should OxygenOS 15 improve?

There are still a few months until the presentation and first versions of OxygenOS 15, but we already have a wish list for future versions from OnePlus. The current OxygenOS 14 has fallen short of new features and options, so the next update must be a revolution to make us forget the bad news. Among the new features that we ask for in OxygenOS 15 are the following:

– Lock screen customization with widgets.
– A proprietary AI with interesting accessibility features.
– An alert slider with customizable options.
– Renewed multimedia player.
– Set the app drawer to 5×5.
– More attractive design changes and no refinements.

It remains to be seen what OnePlus surprises users with. Most likely, we will see the first touches of a new AI, although it remains to be seen what it is capable of and if it can compete with Google or Samsung.
