Protection against water damage through backflow flap

In times of climate crisis, extreme weather events such as heavy rain and floods pose ever greater challenges for the Austrian population. Christopher Wippel, founder of Adeva, has developed “EasySafe”, a patented backflow flap for homes that can be installed later. This innovation not only promises simple protection against water damage, but also represents a “simpler and cheaper alternative” to construction work.

With his startup, the Lower Austrian wants to prevent water damage in houses caused by backwater during heavy rain. Through the “flow optimization of the flap inlet” and a slightly swinging lid suspension, the flow is improved and the risk of deposits is minimized. According to the manufacturer, installation is simple, requires no special tools and should be completed in about 15 minutes.

Effective protection

The subsequent installation of conventional backflow flaps in existing buildings represents a “significant challenge”. It requires complex measures such as digging up the house sewer, demolishing paved areas and building an additional shaft. According to Adeva, the costs for these measures can be up to 7,000 euros.

This is where Easy Safe comes into play. The “EasySafe 160-E” is approved throughout the EU for “domestic wastewater containing faeces and non-faeces”. It can be used in both the collecting and underground pipes. The cleaning opening must have certain dimensions, including a square opening shape and an inside pipe diameter of 152 mm. “If that’s all the case, then it’s totally fantastic,” said investor Christian Jäger, positively surprised after the pitch to “2 Minutes 2 Million”.

Small but mighty

EasySafe has already achieved initial success. The startup is aimed at homeowners, communities and companies. However, at first glance the prices are quite high. Investor Heinrich Prokop also sees it this way: “349 euros. That’s a lot of money for a lot of plastic,” he says on the show. However, water damage or major renovation work will probably be even more expensive.

The inventors of EasySafe will appear in front of the investor jury on January 30th at the startup show 2 Minutes 2 Million. The other startups in the first episode:
