Hyundai is currently launching one new model after another, and the 4.50 meter Tucson SUV will also receive a facelift in the spring. The test car, which was driven in December, can no longer be ordered new; new vehicles are still on the market. The most recent price was around 48,000 euros. The most important thing about the 2024 Tucson will be the new cockpit; the technology remains largely the same.
The hybrid Tucson combines a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with 180 hp and an electric motor with 60 hp, resulting in a system output of 230 hp and a torque of 350 Newton meters. Thanks to a small 1.5 kWh battery, short distances can always be covered purely electrically. And that pays off. In regional traffic we achieved a consumption of 6.2 liters of Super per 100 kilometers. This is better than the standard value of 6.6 liters.

However, if you drive a lot on the highway, you have to expect a significantly higher fuel requirement, especially if you drive quickly. The average value was always well beyond the nine liter mark. Because we drove a lot quickly, the test average after almost 2000 kilometers was rather high at 9.2 liters. The tank holds 52 liters.

4.5 meter SUV: There is little to complain about
Otherwise there is little to complain about. The Tucson has plenty of space for passengers and luggage, and the six-speed automatic transmission transfers the power well to all four wheels. It is a permanent all-wheel drive that was once able to prove in deep snow what a great advantage two driven axles are. The equipment level is high, but we drove the Prime configuration, to which hardly anything else could be ordered.

The direction of travel is determined at the push of a button, which we find unappealing. The digital dashboard already looks old-fashioned a good three years after its market launch, but a new one is coming soon. The towing capacity of 1.65 tonnes is pretty good for a hybrid SUV.
