Broken cell phone? Going to the first shopkeeper we find around in panic is a bad idea. We would risk spending too much. In fact, there is a big difference between one shop and another in terms of repair costs, given the same model and type of fault.
This is what emerges from a study by WeFix.it, an Italian platform that brings together the best assistance centres.
In short, choosing carefully who to go to is recommended, evaluating the shops available in the city or even those online, which offer remote repairs (they collect the faulty model, repair it and send it back).

Average repair costs
The study shows that repairing a cell phone costs on average 80 euros in Italy (out of warranty, of course). Among the brands, Samsung holds the record for repair costs with an average of 107 euros, while Huawei is positioned as the most convenient among the most popular brands, with an average cost of 64 euros. Xiaomi, at 68.22 euros, is slightly more expensive. Apple is around 80 euros.
Screens and batteries are the components that fail most frequently, for obvious reasons. Both are subject to wear, while additional screens suffer damage from falls (despite the widespread use of protective cases and films and the increasingly robust glass parts). It is also interesting to note that the average life of a new smartphone is now around 17-19 months before needing a repair. An already repaired device then tends to last a further 12-15 months.

The market Global consumer electronics repair and maintenance is expected to grow from $8.43 billion in 2022 to $9.64 billion in 2027, according to The Business Research Company. According to the latest data provided by the European Refurbishment Association (Eurefas), over 10% of smartphones in use in the 27 countries of the European Union fall into the category of refurbished devices.
