Rare’s popular multiplayer pirate adventure game, Sea of Thieves, is set to celebrate its sixth birthday this year with a bang. In a special announcement, Rare revealed that 2024 will be the game’s biggest year since its launch in 2018.

The highlight of the upcoming year will be a massive update with tons of new content, set to coincide with Season 12 of the game. Rare also teased updates for Season 13 and Season 14, promising a total of 14 seasons worth of exciting new features and improvements.

During a 20-minute demo, Rare showcased some of the new weapons and gameplay mechanics that players can expect in the upcoming update. One of the most exciting additions is the introduction of a double-barreled pistol and throwing knife, which will change the way Sea of Thieves is played. Players will also have access to a grapple gun for quick navigation and strategic play.

One of the most interesting new features revealed is the Horn of Fair Winds, which allows players to summon wind for various purposes, such as blowing away opponents or accelerating their own ship. Players will also have the ability to walk on harpoon lines while carrying objects, opening up new possibilities for creative gameplay and ship-to-ship combat.

Additionally, players can look forward to new weapons like a shotgun-style shell and a grenade that summons skeletons on enemy ships, adding a new layer of strategy and challenge to combat encounters.

And for players who enjoy a touch of whimsy, Rare announced that players will finally be able to have owls as pets in the game, catering to magic-loving pirates.
