Sony to Release Second-Generation FE 85mm F1.4 GM Lens
According to foreign news sources, Sony is expected to release the second-generation FE 85mm F1.4 GM lens this spring, with availability as early as early summer. The original FE 85mm F1.4 GM was released in 2016 alongside the FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM, making it the earliest GM prime lens to be released. With eight years since its initial release, it is indeed time for an update.
The news indicates that the FE 85mm F1.4 GM II will not only improve optical performance but will also be smaller and lighter than its predecessor. This evolution aligns with the common improvement directions of the second-generation GM lens series, as seen with the current GM2 three-dimensional mirror.
Additionally, there are rumors that Sony may also release another 85GM lens with a larger aperture. However, the credibility of this rumor is questionable at this time.
