I try the (new?) e-prescription and everything works without any problems
Since the beginning of this year, medication prescriptions – for patients with statutory health insurance – no longer have to be issued on paper, but only as electronic prescriptions. Given how digitalization is being handled in Germany, I have great fears – things like this usually don’t work in this country.
I have my first doctor’s appointment scheduled for January 3rd and, as expected, I’m also prescribed medication. I tell the doctor my concerns about the new e-prescription. She is also a little skeptical, but says: “No one arrived here yesterday or today because it didn’t work out.”
I decide to give it a try, in the minimum necessary configuration. I don’t install the app offered for this on my smartphone, and I also don’t print out the recipe to be on the safe side.
At the pharmacy I show my “health card”, i.e. the chip card from my health insurance. The card is scanned and, sure enough: the pharmacist names the two medications that are stored there. Exactly the one I wanted prescribed. And they are also in stock.
To be honest, I’m a bit surprised: I didn’t expect that it would actually work without any problems. The rest is the same as before: I have to pay my additional payment in cash or with the so-called EC card. And get a receipt for it, neatly printed out on paper.
