In a report, the market research company Counterpoint Research from Hong Kong the global sales figures for smartphones analyzed. Based on cell phone purchases in October 2023, the company has a preliminary list with the five best-selling smartphones of the year created for eight different countries. More recent data is not yet available (as of February 2024). Germany is also among the eight smartphone markets examined.

The best-selling cell phones: All bestsellers are from Apple or Samsung

The big winner of market analysis: Apple. The tech giant from Cupertino, California is on the The list of smartphone bestsellers is represented four times. Three out of four current iPhone models were able to secure a place in the top five. There is also a cell phone from the previous generation. The absolute one Frontrunner? The first two places are shared by the one published in 2023 iPhone 15* and that iPhone 14* from the previous year, each accounting for twelve percent of all cell phone purchases in October 2024.

The most expensive current iPhone ends up with an eight percent share of sales iPhone 15 Pro Max*, in third place. After that follows this iPhone 15 Pro* with seven percent. This is the only Samsung smartphone among the top five best-selling phones Samsung Galaxy S23*. The S23 manages it with five percent to fifth place.

On the graphic you can see that Apple is and remains the most popular manufacturer. But the Apple’s market share has been declining slightly since October 2023while Samsung seems to be stagnating. Since Samsung launched the new Samsung Galaxy S24 generation at the end of January 2024, the company could reduce its lead in the first quarter of 2024 – or even overtake Apple.
