After having dealt with the fact that downloads and active users on Netflix and Disney+ dropped in April, letās return to the world of streaming services. More precisely, it was made known on an official level that Disneyās streaming business is not yet profitablebut there doesnāt seem to be much left to that goal.
As reported, in fact, by The Verge on May 7, 2024, Disney+ and Hulu reported a profit for the first time. It is therefore these two streaming services that drive Disneyās business, which we remember also includes ESPN Plus. From the recently published earnings report, it emerges that overall Disney+ and Hulu earned $47 million in the last quarter.
The change of direction is important, so much so that in the same period last year there was a loss of 587 million dollars. However, Disneyās entire streaming business is still unprofitable as ESPN Plus reported a loss of $65 million. This means the business is still losing $18 million.
However, there is no doubt that the one carried out by Disney represents a major turnaround, which could make the streaming business actually profitable before too long. The companyās expectations are to reach this milestone by the fourth quarter of 2024. How will the year continue? Weāll see.
