the Supreme Court rejects the last two antitrust cases

Apple on the one hand, Epic Games on the other, a legal battle that has been going on for years and which seems to see no end. The latest episode took place in this first month of 2024, with the Supreme Court having to reject two appeals.

Despite the various verdicts issued in the courtrooms, which ultimately saw Apple win against Epic Games in a bittersweet epilogue for both parties involved, both Tim Sweeney’s house and Apple of Cupertino consulted the Supreme Court having their respective antitrust cases dismissed.

A victory mainly for Apple which, despite the rejection of its appeal regarding payments outside the platform, will be able to avoid opening the doors to alternative in-app payment systems even if developers will be able to recommend payment methods with more competitive rates outside off the platform.

For Epic the defeat is almost totalhowever, since the company led by Sweeney has failed in its aim to undermine what it defines as a real monopoly.
The CEO of the company stated that “the Supreme Court denied both sides’ appeals“, bitterly pointing out that “the battle to open iOS to alternative stores and payment methods in the US is lost. A sad outcome for all developers“.
