There is a new smartphone king

Apple had a brilliant year in 2023. iPhone sales went through the roof and Samsung was replaced as the largest smartphone manufacturer in the world. Now the first numbers from 2024 are here and Apple has fallen significantly. Samsung also lost, but did better than the iPhone manufacturer and is back at the top.

Samsung is the smartphone king again

Samsung can be happy because smartphone shipments have not collapsed as much as Apple. For the South Korean company, the first quarter of 2024 only fell by 0.7 percent compared to the previous year. At Apple things are much more dramatic.

The iPhone manufacturer lost a whopping 9.6 percent compared to the previous year. That’s still enough for second place, but competition is approaching. Because Xiaomi has really taken off. The company increased by 33.8 percent and sold 40.8 million smartphones. Apple had 50.1 million, Samsung 60.1 million. If things continue like this for Xiaomi, then second place is within reach.

But it’s not just Xiaomi that has increased, the manufacturer has too Transsion grew by an incredible 84.9 percent and now has 28.5 million smartphones shipped. This manufacturer is completely unknown in Germany, but could soon overtake the big companies if developments continue like this.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra has helped Samsung keep smartphone sales stable:

Smartphone market is growing again

Overall, the smartphone market grew by 7.8 percent, so Apple’s poor numbers are a double blow. In the first quarter, 289.4 million smartphones were shipped, significantly more than 268.5 million in the same quarter last year. With the upcoming iPhone 16 models, Apple could follow suit again in the fall. Special functions are planned for the next generation of smartphones. This also includes AI features that the competition already offers.
