11:40 ECA criticizes transport emissions in the EU
The European Court of Auditors (ECA) warns that the EU is failing to meet its climate targets because Co2 emissions from cars are hardly decreasing, according to a current special report. One reason is that there are only a few electric cars on the market so far. Combustion cars still make up three quarters of new registrations. The share of traffic-related emissions in total rose by 16 percent by 2020 compared to 1990. The ECA attributes the problem to the discrepancy between manufacturer information in the test and real road data. The ECA also criticizes the lack of ambition of the EU member states and is pushing for stricter emissions regulations.
