WhatsApp: Stop listening to voice messages?

If you donā€™t like listening to voice messages, WhatsApp now has the right function for you. The feature has been available on the iPhone for a year now, and will soon be available on Android devices as well.

The new function will also enable Android users to view voice messages in text form in the future. The function was introduced in the beta version of the messenger in May last year. For people who are reluctant to listen to voice messages or are not in a suitable environment to listen to them, this feature can be extremely useful. According to TheSpAndroid, this new feature will soon be available for Android devices. In the new beta version 2.24.7.7 for Android smartphones there are several lines of code that point to the feature.

Hereā€™s how it works

For the function, WhatsApp first of all requires another 150 megabytes of data, which you have to download in advance. However, it is unclear whether this will be accompanied by the next update for the beta version or whether the download will only take place when the function is activated.

Once this data has been downloaded, you have to activate the feature manually in the WhatsApp settings. To do this, first go to Settings, then to Chats and you should now be able to activate audio transcriptions there. If the feature is activated, WhatsApp should automatically convert incoming voice messages into text. This works for voice messages up to two minutes long. Anything beyond that has to be confirmed manually. WhatsApp wants to prevent chats from being bombarded with messages that are too long.

It is still unclear when the function will actually be available on Android devices. As a rule, it takes a while for functions from the beta version to find their way into everyday use. In addition, Meta updates are released gradually, which can mean that some users benefit from these updates sooner and others later.
