WhatsApp will stop working from May 1 on these cell phones

Several mobile phone users around the world will face disruptions with the upcoming WhatsApp update set to take effect on May 1, 2024. Meta’s popular messaging platform will no longer support a range of cell phone models from renowned brands such as Apple, Motorola, Lenovo, Huawei, Xiaomi, LG, Sony, and Samsung.

The affected devices include models that were once considered cutting-edge in the mobile phone industry. For example, several Samsung models like Galaxy S4 mini I9195 LTE, Galaxy Ace Plus, Galaxy Core, and others will no longer have access to WhatsApp. On the other hand, iPhones released after 2014 will not be affected.

Meta, the company behind WhatsApp, states that this decision is part of their ongoing efforts to enhance the platform’s security and efficiency. The update aims to adapt to the latest technological advancements, which older devices may not be able to support. As a result, users of the impacted models will need to consider upgrading their phones to continue using WhatsApp without interruptions.

To avoid potential loss of account information, Meta advises users to create a backup of their data, including chats, photos, videos, and other files. This can be done by following specific steps on both Android and iOS devices. On Android, users can initiate a backup process by accessing the “Chats backup” section in the app settings. On iOS devices, the backup can be performed through the “Backup” option in the Chats settings.

It is also recommended to set up automatic backups to regularly safeguard your information without manual intervention. Additionally, users should ensure they are connected to a Wi-Fi network before initiating the backup to prevent unnecessary data usage. The process may take longer for the initial backup, depending on the amount of data being saved.

Overall, the upcoming WhatsApp update underscores the importance of keeping devices up to date to ensure compatibility with essential communication tools like WhatsApp. By staying informed and taking necessary precautions, users can continue to enjoy a seamless messaging experience without risking data loss or interruptions in service.
