“worst commercial ever”?

A few days have passed since the presentation of the new Apple iPad Pro, which arrived in the context of the Let Loose event. The latter was accompanied by an advertising spotwhich however does not seem to have gone down well with the community of enthusiasts.

As reported, in fact, by portals such as PhoneArena e Ars Technicathere are even those who maintain that it is the “worst commercial ever“. The reason? In the video, uploaded to Apple’s official YouTube channel on May 7, 2024 (and which at the time of writing has comments disabled), consumer objects are “ruthlessly” broken.

The idea behind the commercial “Crush!“, which in the end invariably highlights an iPad Pro, would be to show that the tablet makes all humanity’s previous ways of entertaining and creating art. However, the video is strange to say the least: from the destruction of an arcade cabinet to the crushing of a ball, passing through the shattering of the Angry Birds characters.

The criticisms raised by users, especially via social networks, concern the fact that the commercial it would not give due respect to traditional art and artists, crushing the symbolic objects of the latter. According to more than a few users, Apple should have been more careful on this front, perhaps by “reversing” the video.

It is no coincidence that the actor, writer and producer Reza Sixo Safai decided to reverse the commercial in a post published on Twitter X (which at the time of writing has already surpassed 1.5 million views). It wasn’t missing then the comment of Carl Pei, CEO of Nothing: “hate“. In short, what is certain is that the commercial “Crush!“did not go unnoticed.
