1. Women are subject to Jena | Hertha BSC

Compared to the clear home win against Türkiyemspor, Manuel Meister only changed his team in one position against the second representative of FC Carl Zeiss: Marleen Rohde started in midfield for Svenja Poock, Clara Dreher took over the captain’s armband. In the first half, two solid defensive performances dominated the action. After 17 minutes, a counterattack brought the first blue-white opportunity: Senanur Yavuz initiated the effort, but Elfie Wellhausen’s shot unfortunately went just over the goal. Since our Hertha team only allowed their opponents one opportunity, we went to the locker room with a draw that was fair to our performance.

Yavuz equalizes – Jena has the last word

After the break, the Thuringians used a corner to take the lead through Hannah Lehmann (51′). Two turns of the pointer later, Coach Meister was forced to make a substitution when Wellhausen was unable to continue playing after a counterattack. In the minutes that followed, our coaching team brought in more fresh players – and that paid off. In the 73rd minute, Yavuz equalized the deficit when she stayed cool in front of the opposing goalkeeper and put the ball past her. Comebacker Ella Mettner almost took the lead a minute later after coming on as a substitute following a corner (76th)!

Unfortunately, the hosts managed to do that in the final phase. Jena scored again from a standard, this time a free kick gave FCC the goal through Denise Landmann. Our old lady couldn’t find an answer to this, so in the end there was a narrow away defeat to the third-placed team. “We lost a heated battle on artificial turf with two set pieces. Unfortunately, we weren’t rewarded for our effort in an overall even game. The next learning step for us has to be to maybe be happy with the draw in a game like this. After the equalizer, we were on the verge of making it 2-1, but then perhaps we weren’t clever enough and our play was a bit sloppy in the last third at times,” said Coach Meister, assessing the game. What the soccer teacher liked: “The girls left just as much energy on the pitch as they did last week. What should also be highlighted positively is how well they repeatedly played out of the opposition’s attacking press. That was impressive.”

The next task for our girls is the final away game at Bischofswerdaer FV on May 26th. Kick-off takes place at 2:00 p.m.
