Xinhua News Agency, Athens, December 25 (Reporter Yu Shuaishuai) The Greek official Athens-Macedonia news agency reported on the 25th that a ship carrying illegal immigrants sank in the Aegean waters off the Greek island of Paros on the evening of the 24th, and 63 people on board were rescued. And was transferred to Paros Island. At present, rescuers have found the remains of 16 victims, and the search and rescue work is still in progress.

This is the third shipwreck in Greek waters recently. In the middle of the night of the 21st, a ship carrying illegal immigrants sank in the Aegean Sea. 13 people were rescued, 3 people died, and many others were missing. On the afternoon of the 23rd, a ship carrying illegal immigrants sank in the waters of southern Greece. 90 people survived on the ship. At present, 11 bodies have been recovered, and an unknown number of people are still missing.

According to information released by the Greek Coast Guard, all three ships sailed from Turkey to Italy.

Greek Minister of Shipping and Island Policy Giannis Plakiotakis on the 25th accused the snakehead of allowing illegal immigrants to “crowd in boats that do not even have life jackets and even basic safety standards”, and called on the international community to take action.

In March 2016, Turkey and the European Union reached an agreement on the issue of illegal immigration control. The number of illegal immigrants smuggling to Europe via Turkey once dropped sharply, but the Aegean Sea is still an important channel for illegal immigrants to smuggle to Europe via Turkey.
