Head of Authority Capital of the Archipelago (OIKN), Bambang Susantono confirmed that as many as 200 hotel rooms would be ready by August 17 2024. He added that there would be 2 hotels ready for use by the time of the August 17 ceremony.

“Approximately 200 rooms will be available on August 17. There are 2 hotels that will be available on August 17,” said Bambang Susanto in the Post-IKN Future Seminar on Saturday (17/2/2024).

The hotels which are planned to be operational in August are the result of private investment, one of which is the Nusantara Consortium which is building the Nusantara Hotel.

At the August 17 ceremony, Bambang said that one of the places used was the Ceremoni Plaza. Currently, the Plaza Ceremoni building is still under construction and will be completed before the commemoration of Independence Day on August 17.

From the front of the Ceremoni Plaza, people can see the State Palace behind it. In front of the Ceremoni Plaza there will be space to relax.

There is also a mini amphitheater in the open area of the IKN National Axis, which is used as a means of entertainment such as holding music performances, stand up comedy and dancing.

“This is the western national axis. There are people in the amphitheater who dance and play music or maybe people who want to stand up comedy are on the national axis,” said Bambang.

Near this national axis, the Coordinating Minister’s office, Phase 1 Bank Indonesia Office, malls, hospitals, hotels and hangout places for millennials were also built. In other places, many schools will also be built, one of which is the Nusantara Intercultural School (NIS).

“We want to have an ecosystem that can show that this is the beginning of a city that will have at least 4 features,” said the Head of OIKN.

“The first feature is green, no vehicles that are not green can enter this city. Second, it is a smart city that uses digital technology, the third is an inclusive city, not a city for rich people, not for certain people. Lastly, of course this is a sustainable city,” he continued.

Bambang also confirmed that IKN would become a 10 minute city. People in IKN can go on foot with a travel time of 10 minutes.

“You can walk anywhere in 10 minutes, this is a city in 10 minutes, the more roads the healthier, the pollution is lower,” he said.

A toll road will also be built in IKN. This toll road will provide an estimated travel time from residential areas to the airport of only around 45 minutes.

“There is a toll road being built now, the airport is here. Now going to IKN should take 1.5 hours, later it will take 45 minutes,” explained Bambang.

Apart from that, the availability of drinking water at IKN comes from the Sepaku Semoi Dam, the construction of phase 1 has been completed and in the next 2-3 weeks it will be filled with water. People in IKN can drink water directly from the tap without needing to boil it first.

“The dam has been completed, in 2-3 weeks it will be at full capacity,” said Bambang.

Regarding the information system at IKN, Bambang said it would have a world-class internet connection. Additionally, there will be no view of the power lines dangling over the poles. All cables will be buried in the ground in a system called multi-utility tunnel (MUT).

“There are no more cables hanging around. Everything will go into the multi-utility tunnel,” said Bambang.

With all the complete environmentally friendly facilities and programs including the restoration of tropical forests in Kalimantan, it turns out that IKN will only accommodate around 2 million people.

“This (IKN) is 4 times the size of Jakarta but its population is only 2 million people. We don’t want to repeat what happens in big cities in Indonesia which are over capacity, over capacity of the environment to fulfill a good life,” he explained.
