It wasn’t until FC St. Gallen hit the crossbar in the 48th minute that this duel in Lucerne really started. Christian Witzig only hit the woodwork after a beautifully executed lob over FCL goalie Pascal Loretz, but he woke up the around 12,000 fans after the dull first half.
Just four minutes later, Jordi Quintilla forced the Lucerne goalkeeper into another save after a long-range shot – the Eastern Swiss were closer to the lead after the break. That should change after an hour after a triple substitution on the part of the FCL. First Thibault Klidjé tested FCSG keeper Lawrence Ati Zigi from close range (59′), a little later active captain Ardon Jashari did the same from a distance (69′).
St. Gallen cannot react
The Lucerne team had taken control of the game at this point and, with the self-confidence from two wins in the last seven days, they took the lead in the 71st minute. After a one-two between Dario Ulrich and Max Meyer, Klidjé made it 1-0, but Zigi couldn’t do anything.
As a result, the home team remained more active and St. Gallen hardly found a way into the offensive. It wasn’t until injury time that Felix Mambimbi was able to equalize, but the striker put a ball from the center well over the goal.
This ends an English week to forget for the people of Eastern Switzerland. Peter Zeidler’s team suffered three defeats and the third-placed team is already eleven points behind leader YB. To make matters worse, captain Lukas Görtler had to be replaced injured in the second half.

The mood at Mario Frick’s home team was completely different. The FCL bagged its third win this week and moved past FCZ into fourth place in the table.
Both teams will be back in action next Sunday. Lucerne will host FC Winterthur at 2:15 p.m., while St. Gallen will face FC Basel at 4:30 p.m. in St. Jakob-Park.
