Lots of spectacle in the second half
After the break, the Hertha fans who had traveled with them had the goal scream on their lips. Maza turned quickly, shot and smashed the ball onto the crossbar from around 25 meters (47′). Three minutes later, Kenny aimed over the box from the right (50′). In the middle of this early period of pressure, which was supposed to be a foretaste of a wild exchange of blows, Schnellbacher put the Black and Whites back in the lead with a powerful hit into the left corner (54th).
Our Old Lady was by no means giving up: Tabaković failed with a difficult direct pass from Kristof and also had no luck with the rebound (60th). Less than 60 seconds later, our number 11 served our number 25 again – and the goalkeeper was once again on the spot. But this time Palkó Dárdai, who had rushed along, slotted the second ball into the net to make it 2-2 (61′). This stand didn’t last long: The Saarland team combined towards the penalty area, Jannik Rochelt found Paul Wanner and he made it 3-2 (65th). In direct return, Bilal Hussein, who came on for Pascal Klemens, came close to equalizing, but his shot went just wide (66′).
Elversberg puts the lid on it
Our trainer brought Derry Scherhant and Marten Winkler in for Palkó Dárdai and Maza (73′). Both fresh players immediately came into action: The marble reached Scherhant via Winkler and Deyovaisio Zeefuik, but the offensive force’s header flew into the net (74th). The usual confident Tjark Ernst took a safe attack from SVE by Wanner (79th). With Florian Niederlechner, our Hertha team wanted to force at least a point with all their might, but their efforts in the last few minutes did not lead to success. Instead, Kevin Koffi finally sealed Hertha BSC’s bankruptcy with a 4-2 win on their first appearance in Elversberg (88th).
Next Saturday (11.05.24, 1:00 p.m.) the 33rd matchday will take place in the Olympic Stadium, then 1. FC Kaiserslautern will be a guest on the Spree.
