Things are going just as badly for SV Waldhof Mannheim in the 3rd league as for MSV Duisburg. And here too the coach is under strong fire.
MSV Duisburg and Waldhof Mannheim currently have a few things in common: The Zebras started 2024 with a 1:4 at 1860 Munich and 2:3 against Halle.
The consequence after the false start: The Duisburg fans demanded the head of the coach after the Halle game. Loud shouts of “Schommers out” resounded through the MSV Arena. The gap to the saving bank is already eight points after 21 games.
Even if the situation in Mannheim looks a little better than in Duisburg in terms of points, there is also a great fear of relegation to the regional league at SV Waldhof. After the 1:2 in Lübeck, a 0:2 against Dynamo Dresden followed. The gap to the first non-relegation place is four points.
While the MSV is already trying its third coach in the current season with Boris Schommers after Torsten Ziegner and interim coach Engin Vural, the Waldhof bosses have remained steadfast so far and stuck to Rüdiger Rehm. The only question is, for how much longer? Because Rehm is coming under increasing criticism. After the 2-0 defeat against Dresden, shouts of “coach out” rang through the Carl Benz Stadium in Mannheim.
Rehm continues to be combative and said to “Magenta TV” after the Dresden game: “We are not far away and have to keep our heads up. We have to keep going. There is a never-ending fight for this club. That is the task “We have everything we need to get through this year.”
If Rehm has his way, he would like to continue to hit the transfer market after the signings of Terrence Boyd (1. FC Kaiserslautern) and Kevin Goden (1. FC Düren). “We need help. Either we have to help ourselves or seek external help. If anything happens, we are open to anything.”
On Friday (January 26th, 7 p.m.) SV Waldhof Mannheim travels to Halleschen FC, who are currently four points ahead of Waldhof. An immensely important game – also for Rüdiger Rehm’s position.
