9-year-old lioness in India zoo died of new crown infection, source of infection unknown

According to reports from the Times of India and India Today on the 4th, a 9-year-old lioness at the Wandaluor Zoo in Chennai, India, was suspected to have died of the new crown virus, and 8 other lions in the same park were diagnosed with the new crown.According to the garden, the staff had previously discovered that 5 lions in the safari park experienced loss of appetite and occasional coughing. The veterinary team inside the zoo took immediate action and found 9 lions tested positive for the new crown virus. There are currently 13 lions in the zoo, 6 males and 7 females.

At around 6pm local time on the 3rd, the 9-year-old lioness Nila died. She had a runny nose just the day before her death. Although she received timely treatment, she still died one day later.

The zoo said that the source of the animal’s infection is still unclear, and all breeders, assistants and veterinarians have been vaccinated with the new crown vaccine and strictly wear personal protective equipment when in contact with animals.

The zoo lion test samples were sent to the Bareilly and Hyderabad Cell Molecular Biology Center of the Indian Institute of Veterinary Medicine on the 4th for further testing.
