DUBAI – “We can! The voices of the girls for their empowerment.” This is the title of the conference that was held Monday at the Women’s Pavilion of the Dubai Expo, organized by Save the Children, and which hosted young activists from Egypt, Lebanon and Africa.

The date of the symposium was not accidental: 11 October is the UN International Day of Girls, in support of equality and the growth of awareness of gender injustices.
The Emirati entrepreneur and activist Sarah Al Madani stressed the importance of society’s change of course in accepting female power. “Instead of hiding behind dated cultures, habits and traditions, we need to start thinking seriously about changing them. Reforms start within families and we need to focus on educating the new generations.”
Nouneh Sarkissian, the wife of the president of Armenia and UNICEF ambassador, spoke with a speech on women in positions of power. Environments conducive to this development should be encouraged by involving women in decision-making at the highest levels.
