Died on January 7 at the age of 78, Franz Beckenbauer will have his bronze statue at the Allianz Arena, the stadium of Bayern Munich, alongside that of Gerd Müller, an association of Bavarian supporters announces this Sunday.

Franz Beckenbauer, who died on January 7 at the age of 78, will have his bronze statue at the top of the esplanade leading to the Allianz Arena, the stadium of Bayern Munich, an association of supporters of the Bavarian club announced on Sunday.

The “Kaiser Franz” statue will be on a 1.5 scale (approximately 2.70 meters). It will be molded on a base in the shape of the Bavarian diamond and will take its place next to that of Gerd Müller, top scorer in the history of Bayern Munich and who died on August 15, 2021 at the age of 75.

A crowdfunding campaign launched

It “must recall the elegant and unforgettable pose of the Kaiser as leader of the game”, explains the Kurt-Landauer Stiftung, a foundation taking the name of the former president of Bayern created in 2017 by supporters of the club, also at the origin of the statue of Gerd Müller, on a scale of 1.5 and inaugurated in September 2023.

Bayern Munich and Franz Beckenbauer’s family have approved the project, the foundation explained, and the club’s supporters can help finance it through donations. The organizers are counting on an inauguration within a year and a half. The “Kaiser” and the “Bomber” will thus be reunited in front of the Allianz Arena, a stadium that Beckenbauer greatly contributed to building when he was manager of Bayern in the early 2000s.
