AC Milan failed to win after drawing 3-3 when they hosted Genoa in the match week 35 of Serie A 2023/24 at the San Siro, Sunday (5/5) evening WIB.

Milan’s goals were scored by Alessandro Florenzi, Matteo Gabbia and Olivier Giroud. Meanwhile, Genoa’s goals were scored by Mateo Retegui, Caleb Ekuban and Malick Thiaw’s own goal.

The draw means Milan remains in second place in the standings with 71 points from 35 matches. Meanwhile, Genoa is ranked 12th with a collection of 43 points.

AC Milan opened the first half badly. Only four minutes into the match, they were punished by a penalty because Fikayo Tomori fouled Alessandro Vogliacco in the forbidden box.

Retegui, who was the penalty taker, did his job well and put Genoa 1-0 up.

After the goal, Milan directly pressed Genoa’s defense and almost equalized in the 13th minute through Christian Pulisic’s shot. However, the ball just hit the goal post.

Milan were only able to equalize at the end of the first half or the 45+1 minute. Samuel Chukwueze sent a cross from the right into the penalty box. Florenzi, who was standing free, successfully headed the ball into the goal. The first half ended in a 1-1 draw.

Genoa started the second half well. They were able to score a second goal when the game had only lasted three minutes.

After that, Milan tried to push back against Genoa’s defense. However, they had difficulty building attacks.

Milan’s efforts finally paid off in the 72nd minute. A corner kick went right into the middle of the penalty box, which Gabbia then met with a header at the far post. AC Milan 2, Genoa 2.

The score changed again in the 75th minute. Milan went ahead thanks to Giroud’s volley after receiving Pulisic’s cross. The score is 3-2.

However, the home side’s advantage only lasted briefly. In the 87th minute, Genoa equalized through Thiaw’s own goal. Morten Thorsby gave a flat pass into the middle of the penalty box and the Rossoneri players couldn’t block it. The ball finally rolled into the goal after touching Thiaw.
