The American actress Olivia Munn (43) has been diagnosed with breast cancer. She shares that herself on Instagram.

“I have been diagnosed with breast cancer and I hope that sharing this will help others find comfort, inspiration and support on their own journey.”

Munn has shared a number of photos on the platform, both from the hospital bed and photos with text.

The 43-year-old says that in February last year she took a genetic test that screens for 90 different types of cancer, and that she then tested negative for all 90 – including BRCA, which is the most common type of breast cancer. At the same time, she also had a mammogram, which was normal.

Just two months later, she received the counter-notice.

“In the last ten months, I’ve been through four operations, and spent so many days in bed that I don’t even have a count,” explains Munn.

She says that she has kept the disease private for so long because she has had a need to get through the worst part before telling the world about the disease.

According to Munn, the cancer was discovered by chance. Since she had just had a mammogram, and it looked fine, it was another year until her next check-up. A doctor, on the other hand, wanted to examine how exposed she was to the disease, taking into account her age and family history of cancer.

In grief: Lost mora

“The fact that she (the doctor’s note) did it saved my life. She found that I had a 37 percent chance of getting breast cancer, and so I was sent for an MRI – and then an ultrasound and a biopsy. There, the aggressive and fast-growing form of cancer Luminal B was discovered in both breasts”.

30 days later she had a double mastectomy, which means that she removed both breasts.

In conclusion, the actress encourages other women to ask their doctor to carry out the same examination as she had, so that others also have the opportunity to detect any cancer early.
