Before leaving Afghanistan, the Americans destroyed the helicopters so that they could not be used by the Taliban. But they may have left Islamic fundamentalists with something much more valuable: the digital infrastructures built over the years, from confidential communications to electronic registers and databases with the biometric information of Afghan collaborators. Thousands of people are at risk of being identified by the Taliban and killed.
