Afghanistan: Massoud, we will never give up the fight

by admin

“We will never give up the fight.” This is the message launched through Facebook by the leader of the Afghan resistance to the Taliban, Ahmad Massoud, after the news of a capitulation of the Panshir and his escape to Tajikistan spread. “We will never give up fighting for God, freedom and justice,” writes Massoud. “Our people – he assures – will never tire of trusting God and will go on to build a prosperous, free and independent Afghanistan”.

The rumor of the fall of the “rebel valley”, never conquered even in the days of the Soviet Union, had sparked enthusiasm in Kabul, where Western countries are completing their evacuation and the Taliban are preparing to form their own government. The international partners, the US and the EU in the lead, are opening up to the hypothesis of collaboration with the executive that will take office in the country.

Afghanistan, UN meeting on 13 September for humanitarian aid

Meanwhile, the international community remains working on the humanitarian crisis that exploded with the return of the Taliban. The United Nations will convene a ministerial meeting in Geneva, Switzerland on September 13 to seek a rapid increase in funding to address the growing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, where nearly half of the country’s 38 million people are in need of assistance. UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric, in announcing it today, said Secretary General Antonio Guterres will appeal “for full and unhindered humanitarian access to ensure that Afghans continue to get the essential services they need.”
