After Charles III’s cancer diagnosis became known. British Prime Minister Sunak appealed to the population to support the monarch. Federal President Steinmeier also wishes the 75-year-old a speedy recovery.

One day after King Charles III’s cancer diagnosis was announced. Rishi Sunak has indicated that he will “continue to communicate as normal” with Charles in his capacity as British Prime Minister. Sunak also told BBC radio that Charles’ cancer was detected early.

Many families across the country are affected by a similar condition and know what such a diagnosis means for everyone, the Prime Minister told the BBC. “We’re just going to stand by him and hope to get this over with as quickly as possible.”

Buckingham Palace announced on Monday that the 75-year-old had been diagnosed with a type of cancer. It was not announced what species it was.

Steinmeier sends well wishes

The king also received further wishes for his recovery from all over the world – including from Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. “It was with great regret that I learned of your illness,” Steinmeier said to Charles, according to the Federal President’s Office. “On a personal level and on behalf of my compatriots, I wish you a speedy and complete recovery with all my heart. I am sure you are in the best medical hands.”

Charles was a great friend of Germany, the president’s letter continued, “and I am very grateful for this friendship.” Steinmeier wished Charles, Queen Camilla and the entire royal family a lot of strength in the coming weeks.

Prince Harry arrived in London

Meanwhile, Charles’ youngest son, Prince Harry, has arrived from California. The relationship between Charles and Harry has been strained for some time. Harry retired from royal duties in 2020 and moved to California with his wife Meghan.

About an hour after Harry’s arrival, Charles and his wife, Queen Camilla, were driven from Clarence House to Buckingham Palace. The couple waved to tourists and supporters gathered outside the palace. A short time later, a helicopter took off from the palace property, presumably containing both of them.
