Alaska Airlines Cancels Flights of Boeing 737 Max 9 Aircraft

Alaska Airlines announced on Wednesday that it would be canceling all flights using Boeing’s 737 Max 9 aircraft through Saturday in order to conduct inspections on the planes. This decision comes after a recent incident where a door on a 737 Max 9 aircraft used by the airline came off during a flight.

The airline stated that the cancellation of these flights will affect 110-150 flights per day. Alaska Airlines is still waiting for documents from Boeing and the U.S. Aviation Administration (FAA) in order to begin inspections of their 737-9 Max fleet.

In an update on its website, Alaska Airlines expressed regret that the flight cancellations have had a significant impact on passengers, as the affected aircraft are being taken out of service. However, the safety of its employees and passengers remains the company’s top priority. Alaska Airlines stated that they will only return these aircraft to service once all findings are fully resolved and meet the strict standards of the FAA and Alaska Airlines.

Following this announcement, Alaska Airlines shares fell by 0.8% on Wednesday, while Boeing shares rose by 1.5%.
