This was reported by the State Attorney General’s Office in a statement. The opinion of the Public Ministry of Chile must be evaluated by a Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of that nation.

Statement from the Attorney General’s Office on the cases pursued against Alberto Fujimori

“Having met the requirements set out in Article 647 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (of Chile), and in the provisions of the Extradition Treaty between the Republic of Chile and the Republic of Peru, the Supreme Court of the neighboring country proposes that grant the extension of extradition due to his responsibility as the author of the crimes of illegal supply of firearms, illicit association to commit a crime, generic falsehood, conspiracy and others,” reported the entity now led by Javier Pacheco.

Precisely, when Daniel Soria was in charge of the PGE, Pacheco was given the authority to defend the Peruvian State in the procedures to extend the extradition of the former dictator.

In total there are 8 cases for which the Peruvian State seeks to expand the extradition of former dictator Alberto Fujimori. One of these is the sale of weapons to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).

The former dictator was again captured in public on the streets of San Borja. Unlike previous opportunities, now Alberto Fujimori gave an update on his health after leaving the Barbadillo Prison at the beginning of December 2023.

“I’m improving, but I’m always checking,” was Fujimori’s brief response to Willax’s cameras. “Of course,” he says when asked if his health has been strengthened by being reunited with his children and grandchildren.

However, his children Keiko and Kenji Fujimori have not appeared publicly with him. He has only been seen accompanied by his lawyer Elio Riera and a person carrying his oxygen tank.

Lawyer Riera pointed out that his defense will continue seeking Fujimori’s innocence and announced the presentation of an appeal for annulment before the Constitutional Court, after the refusal to apply the right of grace in the Pativilca Case.

Alberto Fujimori has been a controversial character in the recent history of Peru. He ruled during the 1990s, and was imprisoned for corruption and human rights violations. His sentence to 25 years in prison includes notorious cases such as the Barrios Altos and La Cantuta massacres, as well as the aggravated kidnapping of a journalist and a businessman.

Despite his conviction, he has a number of followers who have argued injustices in his criminal process and demanded his release. Future legal actions will seek favorability in the TC, and, according to indications from his lawyer, they could be brought before international bodies if a positive result is not obtained.
