Alberto Otárola on alleged regulation of Nelson Shack: “Someone in the Government wants me to go to the Prosecutor’s Office”

Following the complaint revealed last week, which indicated that the head of the Comptroller General of the Republic, Nelson Shack, had warned that he was suffering from regulation by the DINI, an institution attached to the PCM with the alleged knowledge of his then in charge, former Prime Minister Alberto Otárola; An investigation to initiate the corresponding investigations before the Attorney General’s Office has been requested. This request came from the current Minister of Justice, Eduardo Arana, who announced the measure through actions of the State Attorney General’s Office.

This requirement has caused the former head of the PCM to give an interview to RPP in which he not only questioned Eduardo Arana’s intention to request the investigation of this fact; but also revealed a series of acts initiated by the DINI against him personally. “I must express my surprise at this complaint, that I am not concerned about its content, because it is a fact that I was not aware of,” the former official initially alleged.

According to Otárola, “the comptroller’s office did not present any official document on this issue, there was only a rumor.” “In fact, I am one of the people who defends the end of an intelligence service that has to be democratic. So following people, with so much work I had in October, is outrageous”; the former prime minister alleged.

Thus, the former minister insisted that the rumor occurred in October 2023 and implied that “they had found a car in the comptroller’s house; and that, furthermore, for the purposes of the report that I have read, that order would have been assigned to the DIGIMIN, which is an organ of the Ministry of the Interior. So, officially there was no written complaint,” he reiterated.

Likewise, Alberto Otárola, who at the time was a trusted man of President Dina Boluarte, considered that this request announced by the Minister of Justice, Eduardo Arana, was a “political” request, stating: “what I want at this moment is to condemn a political decision of the Minister of Justice. I do not have any problem”.

In that sense, he hinted that there was an eagerness on the part of “someone from the Government” for his person to appear before the Attorney General’s Office. “It seems that someone in the Government wants me to go to the Prosecutor’s Office to ask me questions, because I will be happy to go and answer all the questions that the Public Ministry asks me. “Especially for such a minor event for which I have no participation or responsibility,” he explained.

“I am surprised that yesterday the Ministry of Justice announced that its attorney is going to file a complaint and the truth is that this tastes like something else to me. Another minister used revenge against me, I want to think that it was and is a mistake, and also the intention of wanting to put an issue on the public agenda”; Otárola said.

On the other hand, regarding the other person investigated for this fact, the former DINI manager, Roger Arista; The former official ruled out that the request for resignation that was requested of him at the time came directly from President Dina Boluarte.

“That was a decision of the President of the Republic, which was communicated to me and General Arista presented his resignation and was replaced by another equally competent former military officer; So it has been a natural change”

On the other hand, the former official explained that, contrary to what was thought, he was the one who was suffering regulation by the State. According to Otárola, follow-up actions had been carried out against him that were registered on March 24 of this year; in a period in which he was no longer Minister of State.

Otárola reported having been recorded when he entered a bank on El Polo Avenue at around 10:45 am “A person, a public official who belongs to the Ministry of the Interior, gives me this video. And I thank you because I was warned that I was being monitored irregularly,” he concluded.
