Iran, Russia and China will carry out joint military maneuvers in the Gulf of Oman

In full escalation of tensions with the West, the navies of Iran, Russia, and China will participate in joint naval maneuvers in the waters of the Gulf of Oman from this Tuesday. The decision comes in response to the attacks against ships by Houthi rebels from Yemen and the ongoing military offensive in the Gaza Strip.

The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed that several Russian ships, including the missile cruiser ‘Variag’ and the anti-submarine frigate ‘Marshal Shaposhnikov’, have arrived in the Iranian port of Chabahar for the maneuvers named “Maritime Security Belt 2024.” The objective of the exercises is to ensure the safety of economic activities at sea.

The maneuvers will also involve representatives from Oman, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, and South Africa as observers. Iranian media stated that the goal of the joint exercises is to strengthen regional security, promote collective cooperation, and demonstrate the ability to provide support for global peace and maritime security.

These naval exercises mark the fifth time that Iran, Russia, and China have conducted joint maneuvers in the Gulf of Oman. The activities are scheduled to conclude on Friday.

The timing of the maneuvers coincides with increased tensions in the region due to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, as well as attacks by Houthi rebels in the Red Sea. The Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs, Israel Katz, urged the United Nations Security Council, which includes Russia and China, to put pressure on Hamas to release hostages taken during a recent terrorist attack.

The joint military exercises highlight the growing cooperation between Iran, Russia, and China amid global geopolitical challenges. The participants aim to enhance maritime security and promote stability in the region through collective efforts.
