The Bavarian celebrity chef Alfons Schuhbeck was transferred from the Landsberg JVA to the Rothenfeld branch. The 74-year-old is awaiting a relaxation of his prison sentence there.

Alfons Schuhbeck spent almost half a year in the Landsberg am Lech correctional facility. Now the celebrity chef was moved to Rothenfeld on Monday (February 5th), reports “Bild”. In the prison branch, the 74-year-old can expect relaxations in his prison sentence, such as release.

As the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” reports, the prison director in Landsberg, Monika Groß, confirmed the move from Schuhbeck to Rothenfeld. “For data protection reasons and to protect personal rights, no further information will be provided,” explained Groß. Schuhbeck’s lawyers also remained silent about their client’s transfer. “Bild” first reported on Schuhbeck’s move.

Transition to freedom

The Rothenfeld branch near Lake Ammersee was previously used as a women’s prison. Today it serves as a transition to freedom for convicted criminals. According to reports in “Bild”, there are more leisure opportunities for inmates in Rothenfeld than in other prisons. For example, sports offerings such as volleyball and basketball, as well as further training opportunities and freedom of movement.

The long-time FC Bayern board member and president Uli Hoeneß (72) also spent part of his prison sentence in open prison in Rothenfeld. Hoeneß was originally sentenced to three and a half years in prison for tax evasion in March 2014, but was released early after 21 months.

Millions of dollars in tax evasion

In October 2022, Schuhbeck was sentenced to a total of three years and two months in prison by the Munich 1 Regional Court for tax evasion amounting to millions (around 2.3 million euros). He had evaded taxes for years in his two luxury restaurants Orlando and Südtiroler Stuben in Munich. In August 2023, the restaurateur began his prison sentence in the Landsberg am Lech prison.
