Algeria, the regime blocks the protests of young people

Last Friday the 118th demonstration of Hirak, the Algerian movement born in February 2019 against the candidacy for the fifth term of office of the president, was banned by the police Abdelaziz Bouteflika, then forced to resign. After a year of total lockdown, the young people of the “smile revolution” or the “Algerian spring”, as the local press dubbed the protest, had resumed demonstrating as early as February, calling for a radical change in the political system and the postponement of the elections advances announced by the president Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
