Alpine skiing: Corinne Suter is injured and Mikaela Shiffrin falls heavily – rts.ch

The first of two World Cup descents in Cortina d’Ampezzo was marked by several falls. Corinne Suter and Mikaela Shiffrin are notably among the victims.

Corinne Suter interrupted her race after a jump. The Schwyz native apparently injured her knee. Last year, the Olympic champion fell heavily on this same track, suffering a concussion. At the end of the afternoon, Swiss-Ski provided some details on Suter’s injury. She complained of knee pain following a jump on the upper part of the descent. The 29-year-old skier was repatriated to Switzerland for extensive medical examinations.

Shiffrin helicoptered

Mikaela Shiffrin fell in the upper part of the track, about twenty seconds into the race. The American, who appeared to have injured her left leg, was evacuated by helicopter to hospital.

Priska Nufer, Michelle Gisin and Italy’s Federica Brignone were also eliminated following a fall, but apparently escaped without much damage.
