Ingrid Vik Lysne became sterile from chlamydia

On the eve of last year, sewing influencer Ingrid Vik Lysne was able to share the happy news that she is pregnant.

– I am doing great, she said at the time to MinMote.

She married Andreas Feet in October 2023, and now they will soon be three. But the road there has not been entirely uncomplicated.

– I have a rather shameful story. Very private, surprisingly common, but never told out loud. Had I heard the story myself, I probably would have avoided the operating table. That’s why I tell you, to your horror and warning, she writes in a post on Instagram.

She says that she became sterile from chlamydia. In her 20s, she got the sexually transmitted infection twice. She was young and sloppy with condom use, she writes – because it could be cured with a course of antibiotics.

But it didn’t work out that way.

Sounding the alarm: – Do not underestimate the risk

Chlamydia is the most frequent sexually transmitted disease in Norway, and it is known that untreated chlamydia can lead to sterility, especially in women.

– Once I was probably left with the infection for a couple of months, because I had tested myself too soon. If you become infected with chlamydia, it takes 5-14 days before the disease develops and results in a test. So I got a negative test, even though I was infected. Without realizing it, I scarred my fallopian tubes from the infection, causing them to stick together and become blocked. I became sterile. Something you don’t notice until you want to get pregnant.

Measure on the operating table

Ingrid further writes that she had to undergo a peephole operation at Ullevål Hospital. The message she received from the doctors was that they would remove the fallopian tubes if they were unable to open them.

– When I woke up from anesthesia, I didn’t know if I was sterilized by definition or not. Fortunately, they had opened up nicely during the operation, and I have kept them. I am grateful to Ullevål Hospital for repairing such a self-inflicted injury. But I don’t wish anyone to experience the same. It’s not worth it, she writes.

– Thought it was a venereal disease

Ingrid Vik Lysne has not yet responded to our inquiries.

Chlamydia

Chlamydia is the most common sexually transmitted bacterial infection in Norway. The infection is most common in sexually active people under the age of 25, especially in women.

Every year, more than 25,000 Norwegians are diagnosed with genital chlamydia infection. As the infection is mainly asymptomatic, meaning that many people do not develop symptoms, some remain undiagnosed.

In some women who do not receive treatment, chlamydia can lead to pelvic infection. Some may then later be plagued with chronic pain.

Such an infection can damage the fallopian tubes. This means that the woman may later have problems getting pregnant, and the risk of getting pregnant outside the womb is also greater.
