The Oscar winner Anne Hathaway said he had to kiss a series of actors during audition processes in the 2000s for “chemistry testing” on camera.
Now 41 and with dozens of films under her belt, the actress has revealed how early in her career she accepted “disgusting” requests to “make out” with male actors to test her suitability for an untitled film.
Speaking to V Magazine In an interview published on Monday (22), Hathaway said: “In the 2000s – and this happened to me – it was considered normal to ask an actor to kiss other actors to test chemistry. Which is actually the worst way to do it.”
“They told me, ‘We have ten guys coming in today and you’re cast. Aren’t you excited to be with them all?’. I thought, ‘Is something wrong with me?’ because I wasn’t excited. I thought it looked disgusting. And I was so young and very aware of how easy it was to lose everything by being labeled ‘difficult,’ so I just pretended to be excited and moved on,” she continued.
“It wasn’t a power play, no one was trying to be horrible or hurt me. It was a very different time and now we know better,” she added.
Hathaway, who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in “Les Misérables” (2012), is currently promoting her new film “The Idea of You”.
In it, she plays single mother Solène, who begins an unexpected romance with the lead singer of a popular boy band after meeting at Coachella.
Singer Hayes is played by the British actor Nicholas Galitzine. When asked how he was chosen for the role, Hathaway – who is also a producer on the film – said: “We asked each of the actors who came in to choose a song that they thought their character would love, that they would put on, do. my character would dance and then we would do a little improvisation.”

Galitzine, who gained fame by starring “Continence to Love” e “Red, White and Blue Blood”selected The Alabama Shakes, according to Hathaway.
