O Museum of Sexual Diversityan institution of the Secretariat of Culture, Economy and Creative Industry of São Paulo, dedicated to memory, culture and appreciation of life involving the LGBTQIA+ community, has a new program for the month of April, involving online and in-person initiatives.

Course | Introduction to economics for artists and cultural producers: Aiming to present Economic concepts applied to Culture, the course aims to prepare artists and cultural producers for managing projects and programs in the sector, with a broad view of the social role played by the Economy of Culture and Creative Industries.
Classes will take place on April 13th and 27th, from 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm, at the MDS Entrepreneurship Center, located at Av. São Luís, nº 120. With free and no-cost classification, interested people must register for this link.

Selected applicants will receive an email with information by April 11th and to guarantee their place, they must respond to the email confirming their interest in the position.
The course will be taught by Pedro Silva, master’s student in Economics and Politics of Culture and Creative Industries at UFRGS in partnership with Itaú Cultural, postgraduate in Cultural Management from Centro Universitário SENAC and graduated in Theater from Universidade Anhembi Morumbi.

Rolezinho LGBTQIA+: As MDS’s own initiative that seeks to rescue the memory of historic places in the center of São Paulo for the LGBTQIA+ community, the April rolezinho will take place on the 27th, at 10 am, with a meeting point at the MDS Entrepreneurship Center – Av São Luís, 120, República. The activity will reflect on the repression that LGBTQIA+ people suffered during the military dictatorship and will present the main spaces for sociability and struggle in the community at that time.

Freely classified and available free of charge, this educational action has already been awarded by IBRAM with the Darcy Ribeiro Prize for Museum Education.

Book Freedom Even if Profane @ publicity

Book Club – Trans Autobiographies: On April 29th, the third meeting of the MDS Book Club will be held, an initiative led by Amara Moira, Coordinator of Exhibitions and Culture Programming at MDS, which focuses on the 1st semester of 2024 discuss various trans works. For this meeting, the book under discussion will be “Liberty even if profane” (1998), by Ruddy Pinho (1944-2021).

Ruddy is the author of the first book by trans authors published in Brazil, “Eu Ruddy” (1980), and possibly the trans person who has published the most in the country with seven authorial works (including poems, short stories, chronicles and autobiographies), in addition to published texts sparsely.
The activity will take place online and free of charge on April 29th, from 7pm to 9pm.

MDS Podcast | Launch of a new episode: Opening the new season of episodes of the MDS Podcast, the Museum of Sexual Diversity will talk about Tibira and LGBTQIA+ indigenous resistance, with the participation of Juão Nyn, indigenous activist and author of the book Tybyra: a Brazilian indigenous tragedy. The new episode of the podcast, which will also have a video version, will be released on April 19th, at 6pm, on all audio platforms.

The Museum of Sexual Diversity of São Paulo, a facility of the Secretariat of Culture, Economy and Creative Industry, is an institution dedicated to memory, art, culture, reception, appreciation of life, agency and development of research involving the LGBTQIA+ community – contemplating diversity of acronyms that make up the MDS today – and its recognition by Brazilian society. It is a museum that was born and lives from dialogue with LGBTQIA+ social movements, aims to discuss sexual and gender diversity and has, in its trajectory, the fight for human dignity and promotion of rights, acting as an apparatus cultural for the purposes of social transformation.
