Argentina’s President Javier Milei has confirmed his intention to “dollarize” the economy and continue with the established privatization agenda. “There is no plan b,” he said during an interview with the US economic newspaper The Wall Street Journal in which he also highlighted that the country is seeking investments to continue with fiscal consolidation and confirmed that it will not enter the Brics and will not build relations with “communist” nations and has finally announced that it will begin “adult” talks with the United Kingdom on the Malvinas Islands.
Investments sought
The president reported that he was «surprised by the speed with which we are obtaining results, considering the data from when we took over the leadership of the country», The consolidation of public finances is, however, a long-term process «the population must understand that this process it can last two years.” It will be fundamental for Buenos Aires to obtain funds from abroad. «We would need investments because during the rehabilitation a decline in economic activity, a reduction in employment and a collapse in real wages is possible“, he said. As for privatisations, they will be carried out “as quickly as possible”. «We will privatize everything that can be privatized. It’s not a question of names, but of technical questions,” she added.
The Malvinas knot reappears
When asked about his position on alliances and global positioning, Milei explained that he “does not disapprove” of the possibility that private companies can negotiate with China, but that he does not share the geopolitical vision of the Asian giant. «I will not be allied with the communists and we refuse to be part of the Brics. But the trade issue should not be touched. These are private sector decisions. We must separate the geopolitical vision from the commercial one,” she said.
Along the same lines, when asked about the existence of plans to reclaim the sovereignty of the Malvinas, he stated “we decided to have an adult relationship and start talking about the territorial issue.”
