Without winning the English Championship since the 2003/04 season, Arsenal continues to hunt Liverpool and follow Manchester City. And, to continue dreaming of the Premier League title, the Gunners are betting on the strength of their attack.
Proof of this is that the London team has already scored 31 goals in seven games this year in the competition, an average of 4.42 balls in the net per game. There were six at Sheffield United, four at Newcastle, five at Burnley, six at West Ham, three at Liverpool, two at Nottingham Forest and five at Crystal Palace.
By way of comparison, Everton, Burnley and Sheffield United scored less over 27 rounds. The Toffees scored 29 goals; the clarets, 25; and the Blades, 22. Arsenal have the best overall attack in the competition, with 68 goals. The closest are Liverpool, with 64, and Manchester City, with 62.
The Premier League’s top scorer, however, is Erling Haaland, Manchester City’s center forward, with 18 goals. The best gunner is Bukayo Saka, with 13. The English attacking midfielder is also Arsenal’s biggest assistant, with eight passes on goal. The English leader in this regard is Pascal Groß, German from Brighton, with ten.
