Earlier on Tuesday, it became known that Konstantin Koltsov has died, aged 42. The death was confirmed by the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation. Koltsov was found dead at a hotel in Miami Beach.
The former ice hockey profile has participated in the Olympics for Belarus, and has three seasons behind him in the Pittsburgh Penguins.
He is also known as the boyfriend of world number two in tennis, Aryna Sabalenka (25).
Koltsov and Sabalenka allegedly dated for three years.
– Koltsov apparently died of suicide, the Miami-Dade police said Reuters in a statement on Tuesday.
Struck by tragedy
Belarusian media reported earlier on Tuesday that a blood clot would be the cause of death.
Koltsov was the coach of Salavat Yulaev. In a press release from the club, reproduced by Reuters, it was said:
– It is with great sadness that we inform you that Salavat Yulaev’s coach, Konstantin Koltsov, has died. He was a strong and cheerful person, loved and respected by the players, colleagues and fans.
Sabalenka is scheduled to play her first round of the Miami Open on Friday against the winner of Simona Halep and Paula Badosas in the opening round match.
She has not yet made any public statement as to whether she will complete the tournament.
